Only God knew that Virginia "Bice" Owens age 89 would cease her long struggle with C.O.P.D. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. She was at home with her loving son and caregiver of 20 years David at her side. Now she can breathe freely, hear clearly, laugh, and never get tired.

Bice was born August 6, 1934, one of twelve children born to William and Emma Jane (Smith) Mullins in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. Bice married Arnold C. Owens and began their family of five children. Soon they moved to Richmond where Arnold and his two brothers began Owens Brothers Construction.

Bice was a stay-at-home mom to David, Duane, Dale Owens, Gina Clark, and Vicky (Jerry) Wilson. Bice was Mamaw to Angela, Andrew, and Travis Owens, Jeremy Wilson, Jennifer Barrett, Crystal and Jessica Clark, thirteen great-grandchildren Cheyanne, Kaelyn and Ronan Owens, Brenden Barnes, Mason and Lillian Barrett, Addyson and Callie Wilson, and Deziakia Cottman, Zaydn Johnson, Tyler, and Katie Jackson. Bice is survived by one sister Evelyn Fouch, sister-in-law Nadine Owens, and numerous nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends.

Bice is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Arnold, children Dale and Gina Owens, great-grandson Ryan Clark, her siblings Henry, Granville, Matt, Dave, Wayne, Jack (Sue) Ed (Georgia) Mullins, Katherin (J.T.) Gadd, Lillian Thomas, and Jane (Franklin) Owens.

Funeral services for Bice will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Bell officiating and burial in Goshen Cemetery.
