Virginia King Berheide, 99, passed away at Holy Cross Village in Notre Dame, IN, on March 21, 2025.  She was born on January 4, 1926, in Indianapolis, IN, to Frank and Blanche King.  Virginia was the youngest of four King daughters.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Ned" Berheide, and all her siblings.  She is survived by her son Bob (Kelly) Berheide of Elkhart, IN.

Virginia graduated from Pike Township High School, Marion County, in 1944.  She graduated from Reid Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, IN, in 1948.  Virginia and Ned were married at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Richmond in 1949.

Virginia served as a nurse at Reid Memorial Hospital and Belden Corporation, both in Richmond.  She left nursing in the early 1960s to raise a family.  She was, however, not just a stay-at-home mom.  She also was very involved in sewing, ceramics, golf, toll painting, basket making, needlepoint, bridge clubs, euchre club, and square dancing throughout the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's.  In all these activities, she strived to be the best she could be, winning many Golf Tournaments and Awards at the Richmond Elks Club and at the State level.  If you were fortunate to have a ceramic piece, art piece, or basket with her signature VKB on it, that was a big deal.  She dove into every latest trend, saying everybody's doing it.

She and her husband were avid fans and supporters of Richmond High School athletics, music programs and academic achievers.  Virginia even served as RHS Girls Golf Coach for a couple of years, when if the position had been unfilled, the team would not have competed in those years.  She also worked as an executive assistant at the FIND Center for Richmond Community Schools, retiring from that in 1987.  When Seton Catholic High School was established in Richmond, she supported both programs equally.

Virginia always had a love for cats, but for the longest time, she didn't have one as a pet.  While working at the FIND Center, a stray cat began hanging around, and when she retired, she took him home and named him Findley, after the Findley Elementary School Building that housed the FIND Center.  After Findley, there was Lennie, named for the year 2000 Millennium, and Riebe, named for Father Todd Riebe of the Richmond Catholic Community.  When it came time for Virginia to leave Richmond and move into a senior living facility near her son, her two demands were that it had to be a Catholic Facility and had to also accept Riebe.

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Holy Family Church, with Rev Sengole Gnanaraj officiating, and burial in St. Andrew's Cemetery.
