Velda J. (Downing) Meek (Vicki) 74, of Richmond, IN. passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Reid Health. She was born in Richmond IN on June 2, 1950. She was a retired school bus driver for Wayne County and Pinellas County Florida schools.

Vicki was a gold star sister after her brother David A. Downing was killed in Vietnam. She was a founding member of the Veterans Memorial Park committee and chaired it for 20 years. She took much pride in taking part in bringing a place for Wayne Co. and surrounding areas to come and pay tribute to our beloved soldiers past and present, as she knew all too well the heartbreak of our fallen heroes. One of her last projects was to give the park to the City of Richmond recreation department, to ensure its future maintenance.

Vicki was very crafty and could always make something out of nothing. She enjoyed planting flowers, and the beauty that they brought. Sitting in the sun was one of her favorite things to do. Vicki's family was the light of her life. She was a very caring wife, mother grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survivors include her husband Glen, whom she married in 1993. Two daughters Melissa (Todd) Gens and Christine (Cissy) Owens, had six grandchildren, Brittany Stegall, Zachery Lee, Ricki Bacon, Chelsie Guerrero, Travis Stegall, and Christopher Owens. She had eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jaylin, Talia, Gavin, Danny, Ezra, Bentley, and Brady. And two dogs Sammy and Biscuit.

She is preceded in death by her father and stepmother Raymond and Margaret Downing, her mother and stepfather Josie Lee and Charles DeMeo, and her brother David Downing.
