Thomas L. Holthouse passed away from this life on September 2, 2023, after a brief illness. Tom was born in Richmond on February 1, 1935, to G. Howard and Helen (Thomas) Holthouse. He graduated from Richmond High School, where he played football and basketball and ran track, in 1953.

On June 16, 1956, Tom married the love of his life, Joy J. Uphaus, after dating for 5 years. In 1957, Tom graduated with a degree in Economics from DePauw University. While at DePauw, he was a four-year letterman in football and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

After graduating from college, Tom was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Frances Warren AFB in Cheyenne WY. He then spent 7 ½ years in the AF Reserve at Bakalar AFB in Columbus, IN, and was reactivated in 1962 for the Cuban Missile Crisis. Tom left the Air Force as a Captain.

Tom worked at Holthouse Furniture for 33 years as store manager, floor covering manager, buyer, merchandise manager, and general manager of 13 stores before retiring and selling the company in 1990. In 1971, Tom was elected to the board of First Federal Savings & Loan, which later converted to First Bank Richmond. He was elected chairman of the board in 2001 and spent 18 years in that position.

Tom spent time on the board of Richmond Art Museum and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, Forest Hills Country Club, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (where he spent 3 terms on the church council), Equity Club, and Poker Club.

Tom leaves behind four children: Michael (Lisa) Holthouse of Houston, TX, Debra (David) Brown of Richmond, Jeffrey (Jenney) Holthouse of Richmond, and Annette (Victor) Oeschle of Avon, IN. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren (Katie, Ryan, Brian, Lissa, Pia, Hudson, Connor, Brenton, and Ian) and great-grandchildren Jack David Brown, Callie Rose Hunnicutt, Mila Faith Brown, and Tucker Timothy Brown.

He will be greatly missed.

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 7, 2023, at St. Andrew' Catholic Church of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, with Rev. Sengole Gnanaraj officiating. Tom will be interred at St. Andrew's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home.
