Steven C. Lakes 70 of Centerville passed away on May 19, 2023. He was born June 10, 1952, in Richmond to Sidney and Rosa Singleton Lakes and lived here all of his life.

He was a Richmond High School Graduate class of 1970 and attended Ball State.

While Steve attended Ball State Steve worked summers at Wayne Works; he worked at Huffy Bike Company, and retired from DANA Corporation; after retirement, he worked for Richmond Community Schools.

He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt turkey, deer, and squirrel; he also loved playing music; he was an excellent guitarist and banjo picker. Steve was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Steve is survived by his companion Katherine Burch of Richmond, two brothers Colon (Inga) Lakes of Boston, Indiana, Duane (Cindy Sheets) Lakes of Richmond, one sister Sharon (Mike) Rice of Richmond, sister in law Linda Lakes of Huntington, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Special friends include Danny Sparks, Russell Vanwinkle, John and Alberta Snowden, Cecil and Becky Estes, Charlie Higgs, Willard, and Paula Sparks.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Gerald Lakes.

Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2023, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Clark officiating; burial will be in Elkhorn Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 or to the Cope Environmental Center 1730 Airport Rd, Centerville, IN 47330
