Sharon Dorton 78 of Richmond passed away February 8, 2025 at Arbor Trace after a long illness. She was born October 10, 1946 in Richmond to Wilbur and Carrol Reed Everman and lived in the area all of her life.

Sharon worked for the city of Richmond for many years, serving under the leadership of Mayor Byron Klute and was the first female building inspector in the state of Indiana.

She was a 30 year 4H horse and pony leader for the "Outlaws" and owned Park Elwood Stables.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 41 years Gayle Dorton, one son Jesse (Kristie) Townsend of Richmond, one daughter Sally (Dwayne) Darnell of Ft. City, one stepson Michael (Jane) Townsend of Connersville, eight grandchildren Tanner, Elijah, Paisley, Madilynn, Lucas, Nathan, Brandon, and Brooke; one sister Rebecca Pipenger of New Madison, several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Darrell Townsend, one half-brother Roger Gatland.

Services will be 1:00 PM Monday February 17, 2025 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Townsend officiating; burial will be in Goshen Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
