It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Rose Mary Powell. Born on January 1, 1936, in Richmond, Indiana, Rose lived a remarkable life filled with love, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. She departed this world on December 28, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones, leaving a legacy that will forever be cherished.

Rose shared an extraordinary 70-year marriage with her devoted husband, Russell Thomas Powell Sr. Their love story is one of unwavering commitment and partnership, an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they built a family grounded in love, faith, and resilience.

Rose was the cherished mother of six children: Ken, Rusty, Mike, Lynnette, Jim, and Tim. She also embraced David Henson as another son, holding him close to her heart. Her children were the pride of her life, and she instilled in them the values of compassion, kindness, and perseverance.

Family was everything to Rose. She delighted in being a grandmother to 12 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren, with another precious addition expected in January. Each of them knew her as a source of unconditional love, warm hugs, and heartfelt prayers. Rose also deeply cherished her five loving daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, embracing them as her own.

Rose is survived by her brother, Ken, and (children Helene & Buddy), who shared a lifetime of memories with her. She is reunited in Heaven with her sister Blanche/Melvin & Ken's wife (Dorothy), who preceded her in death, as well as her beloved son Rusty and granddaughter Brianna. Rose's faith assures us she is now healthy and joyous in the arms of Jesus, surrounded by those she loved who went before her.

A special chapter of Rose's life was her lifelong bond with her best friend, Sue Henson, who was more like a sister. Their friendship began when Rose was just 12 years old in Richmond, and it grew into an unbreakable connection. They shared nearly every day together, creating countless cherished memories. Among their many traditions, the most special was their "sister Christmas tree," adorned with ornaments that symbolized their extraordinary bond and the joy they brought into each other's lives.

A woman of unshakable faith, Rose was known for her kindness, strength, and generosity. As a devoted Christian, she lived her life as a testament to her faith, always offering a helping hand, a listening ear, and words of encouragement. Her gentle spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral arrangements: A showing will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a funeral service immediately following. Both services will be held at First Church of the Nazarene on Chester Boulevard in Richmond, Indiana. Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
