Ralph
Shain
Feb 16, 1953 — Sep 11, 2025
Ralph Shain, 72, of Hagerstown, Indiana, passed away on September 11, 2025, while on vacation in Gulf Shores, Alabama, with his companion, Beth Rigdon.
Born on February 16, 1953, in Germany, Ralph was adopted as an infant and raised with strong values of faith, family, and hard work. He took pride in becoming a U.S. citizen at age 17, then changed his name from Ralph Robinson to Ralph Shain. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1971.
After graduating high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971–1979, where he carried out his lifelong passion for airplanes — a love that was truly contagious. That passion continued throughout his life as he volunteered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
Ralph shared 35 beautiful years of marriage with his late wife, Debra Shain. Together, they built a life centered on unconditional love, loyalty, and family. Their marriage was filled with laughter, devotion, and countless memories that continue to live on through their children and grandchildren.
Ralph was blessed and able to find companionship again with Beth Rigdon. They spent almost 14 years together. She had two daughters, Shawna and Molly.
Ralph was the definition of dependable. He gave 100% to everything he did, whether in his career, at home, or in service to others. Known for his honesty, integrity, and steady presence, Ralph was someone his family and friends could always count on. He worked hard, took pride in his home, and found purpose in staying active and productive.
Nothing brought Ralph greater happiness than being a grandfather. He cherished his own grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Cameron, and Chloe, as well as Beth's grandchildren, Nolan, Jolee, and Nellie. His legacy of love, patience, and strength will live on through each of them.
He is survived by his two sisters Kim Tosconi and Debbie Shain whom he grew up with; Herbert (Fabienne) and Elke siblings from Germany; and his in-laws Sherry, Suzie (William) Mark (Donna) and Beth; his son, Jeremy Shain; daughter, Erin (Ronald) Sabados; grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Cameron, and Chloe; his companion, Beth Rigdon; and his mother-in-law, Janice Pryor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra, and his parents, John and Betty Shain.
Ralph's life was one of love, service, and quiet strength. His kindness, humility, and laughter will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Please join us for the "Celebration of Life" service on Saturday, September 27, from 11 am - 2 pm at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Chapel.
