Obituary

Nancy Hamilton Tyndall, age 95, born in July 1928 passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Friends Fellowship Center in Richmond, Indiana. She was surrounded by her three children Garth Parsons of Ohio, David Parsons of Massachusetts, and Heidisue Parsons-Moore of Michigan.

Nancy was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Marie and Stanley Hamilton. Beginning at an early age, Nancy strove to serve others and became a life-long humanitarian. Nancy graduated from Olney Friends School, class of '46 as the valedictorian and majored in Biology and Sociology at Earlham College, class of '50. She served others in her work as a librarian, teacher, and wilderness trip organizer for low-income children. Among many of her endeavors, she was a dedicated member of Quaker Friends Meeting and the Rural Life Association. In addition to her work, she was a devoted family member. During her 37-year marriage to Richard Parsons (deceased 1987), Nancy guided him through his battle with Huntington's Disease. In her community, she was well known for her steadfast kindness to all and her ability to see the positive in any situation.

In 1989, Nancy met and married William (Bill) Tyndall (deceased 2010). They enjoyed many adventures in their motorhome on road trips across the continental US, including Alaska. They traveled to Japan to visit Bill's son, Jay and wife, Yuko. Nancy and Bill enjoyed playing music, gardening, riding in their antique Auburn, dancing with friends, studying their genealogy, and visiting their extended family, all the way from Washington State to Florida, and everywhere in between.

Over the last year, she remained active in the Friends Fellowship Community, traveled to her treasured wilderness getaway in Northern Wisconsin, wrote to friends and family, read voraciously, and was a member of the Care Committee named "Amaryllis" of First Friends Meeting.

Nancy was preceded in death by her sister Mary Ellen Johnson (deceased 2000). She is survived by: her brother Tom Hamilton of Wisconsin; her children: Garth Parsons and wife Mitzi of Ohio, David Parsons, Polly Parsons of Massachusetts, Heidisue Parsons-Moore and husband Phillip of Michigan, Mary Beth Tyndall and husband Kendall of Arizona, Jay Tyndall and wife Yuko of Washington; her grandchildren: Hannah Russell,  Bob Parsons and wife Sonia, Brad McManus, Kate Parsons, and Saige and Hanna Tyndall; her great grandchildren: Kayden Seem Parsons and Giana Russell, Alex McManus, and Isie Parsons; and finally many nieces and nephews. She lived a full life. We were all fortunate to have her for so long.

Her life will be celebrated at First Friends Meeting on February 17, 2024, 1:00pm at 2010 Chester Blvd in Richmond. The celebration will include a time for Open Worship when all are welcome to share their memories and thoughts about Nancy and the life she led. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations be made to organizations that held great importance to Nancy, specifically the Boys and Girls Club of Richmond, Heifer International, and Indiana University's medical research department.
