Mary Margaret Zaleski, 91, of Richmond IN died December 15, 2023, at her home.
Mary was born February 16, 1932, in Indianapolis, IN to Art and Alma Jonas Reis. She graduated from St. Agnes Catholic High School in 1950 and from Butler University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education in 1954. On July 24, 1954, she married Raymond Albert Zaleski.
Mary was a leader and role model her entire life. At Butler, she was president of Alpha Chi Omega when they laid the cornerstone of their new house. After her marriage, she moved to Panama where Ray was stationed in the Army and taught school on the army base. She moved to Richmond in 1955 and during her career worked as the office manager for Phillips Drugs, Lukens, Dumond's, Medical Arts, and Drug Emporium.
Mary served on the school board of St. Mary Catholic School, and Sunrise Stables Therapeutic Riding Center, and was president of the Altrusa Club. She was also a founding member of Achieve Resources Corporation, Inc., formerly known as Green Acres. During her life, Mary volunteered for Richmond Civic Theatre, the Opera Society of Richmond, Study Buddies through Richmond Community Schools, and Catholic Women's United. When she wasn't volunteering her time, Mary enjoyed traveling, playing the slots, going to Notre Dame Football games with her husband, and socializing and playing cards with her friends.
Survivors include five children Raymond A. (Jane Ann) Zaleski Jr. of Richmond, Lynn (Michael) Miller of Richmond, Carol M. (Steve) Overstreet of Indianapolis, Ann (Phil) Meuleman of Indianapolis, and Peter A. (Kathie) Zaleski of Richmond, 14 grandchildren Jamie, Daniel (Emily), Andrew (Cat), Megan (Rich), Katie (Fernando), David (Michelle), Steven (Maggie), Sarah (Matt), Matthew (Hannah), Rachel (Elle), Jacob (Mallory), Nathan, Kayla, and Mary Alice, and 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is preceded in death by her husband, one grandson Zachary Wayne Overstreet, her parents, two sisters Carolyn Mackie and Eileen Laughner, and one brother Arther Reis Jr.
Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 23 at St. Mary's Church 740 North A Street Richmond with Rev. Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday at St. Mary's Church from 11:00-12:30. Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church in care of the Richmond Catholic Office 240 South 6th Street Richmond, Indiana 47374, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Tribute Program P.O.
