Mary Elizabeth Cottongim, age 89, went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2026. She was born on April 21, 1936, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Willis and Virgie (Brewer) Hager.

Mary graduated from Richmond High School in 1956.

She married the love of her life, Elmore Cottongim, on December 14, 1974, and they shared many cherished years together.

Mary was a former member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church and a charter member of Victory Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devoted member. Her gentle spirit and kind heart reflected her deep love for the Lord.

She retired from Belden in Richmond in January 1992 after 26 years of dedicated service.

Mary was a talented and accomplished seamstress. She was a wonderful friend to many and, until she was no longer physically able, she showed compassion by lovingly and selflessly caring for others.

Mary is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmore Cottongim; her mother, Virgie Polver; her father, Willis Hager; and her stepfather, Ralph Polver.

The family would like to thank the Staff of The Springs of Richmond for their excellent care.

Friends may call on Saturday, January 24th, 2026 from 12-1 pm at Stegall-Berheide-Orr

Funeral Home with services immediately following at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Earlham

Cemetery.
