Martha E. Ghearing 98 of Richmond passed away at home on April 26, 2023. She was born July 7, 1924, in Richmond to James E. and Lillian Smith Kettler and lived here most of her life.
She met her husband Jim in 1940 at the Skating Rink, and they were married on July 15, 1942. She and Jim traveled the country after Jim joined the Air Force; on Jim's first deployment he was captured and served one year as a German P.O.W. After Jim was released they returned to Richmond where she worked for twenty years at Cox's Market in the meat department.
Martha was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and was a member of the Holy Family Women's Club.
Martha had a great personality and was loved by many; she loved to dance; she would say that she had a great life.
She is survived by her two children, Rodney (Carolyn) Ghearing of Lakeview, Michigan, Kathy (Jerry) Wise of Richmond, three grandchildren Ashley Ghearing, Vicki Ghearing, Nicholas (Allison) Ghearing, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband James E. Ghearing who died in 2000, one brother Earl Kettler, and one sister Helen Cook.
Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home; burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stegallberheideorr.com
