Obituary

Leslie H. "Les" Monroe, 77, of Centerville, passed away on August 27, 2025, at Reid Health after a long illness. Born on December 17, 1947, in Richmond, Les was a lifelong resident of the area.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a supply specialist and dog handler before beginning his career as a machinist, retiring from Alcoa/Silgan.

A dedicated veteran and community leader, Les was a past commander of the American Legion Harry Ray Post 65 and a member of the V.F.W. Kirk-Little Post 1108. He devoted countless hours to fundraising efforts for Richmond's fireworks, veteran services, and to helping others whenever he could.

Les found joy in fishing, playing golf at Highland Lake Golf Course, where he was a member, and most of all, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Josephine; his daughter, Kimberly (John) Monroe-Pugh; stepsons Richard (Vicky) Froelicher, Mike (Angie) Froelicher, Timothy (Sandy) Leo, and Troy Allen Leo; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; his stepbrother, Jim; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Monroe; his mother, Beulah Bishop Crouch; and one great-grandaughter.

A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home, with Rev. Martin Holman officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. prior to the service. A private inurnment will follow in the Earlham Cemetery Field of Honor, with military rites to be held at a later date.
