Larry Ray Nichols, Richmond passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and his precious puppy pets. He was born June 12, 1947, in Louden TN to James Nichols and Eva Scrimsher Nichols. His family moved to Centerville In. when Larry was 9 yrs old.

He became a legend in Centerville sports history, playing on the first football team Centerville ever put on the field. He excelled in baseball and won the trophy for leading hitter in the Tri-Eastern conference. He could always be found in the Centerville Youth league, coaching his children to winning seasons every year.

Larry was an accomplished musician and singer. Larry formed a rock band while still in High School “Nick’& The Nomads”. They played many events and took their music seriously.

Larry was saved at an early age and sang and played guitar at various times in his home church. He is a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

He met and married his wife Janie and together they sang in most churches in the Wayne County area until his health declined to where he couldn’t. He received the blessing of a heart transplant in 2019 and has since lived in thankfulness and praise to the God who gave it to him. He was logistics manager at Spartech Plastics, and in retirement drove a Centerville School bus. He loved driving the bus and loved the kids that rode it.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janie children, Greg (Amy) Nichols, Tina Nichols, Rick (Angi) Nichols and Randy (Loressa) Pigman. Grandchildren Jake (Madison) Nichols, Lizzie Nichols, & Matthew Nichols, his brother and his wife Jerry & Robin Nichols; three nephews Cody, Matthew (Katelynn), Luke Nichols and many extended family members, his Hillcrest family and friends far and wide.

The family would like to thank the St Vincent’s Hospital, their cardiac transplant team, especially Dr. Amit Patel, and Kierston Howell, who cared enough for Larry to walk this journey with him to this point.

Services for Larry will be at 1:00 PM Thursday October1, 2026 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Pastor Martin Holman officiating; burial will be in in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Cardiac Fellowship at St. Vincent by visiting www.give.stvincent.org .
