June Mitchell Salzarulo passed away at Friends Fellowship Community on April 2, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was a daughter of Irish Catholic farmers, one of that generation's that left the land for the world of commerce, carrying with her the values of that community, love of family, a strong work ethic, and grounding in the faith of her ancestors. She blessed the lives of all she touched. June graduated from Whitewater High School. She was an outstanding graduate of Richmond Business College, which led to her job as secretary to the President of Swayne Robinson. June began her Real Estate Sales career in 1961. She was a very successful realtor who was dearly loved by her clients. She had many repeat customers and received letters from her clients complimenting her expertise and professionalism. One satisfied customer wrote, "June is a true professional. No question or phone call went unanswered." June was the top salesperson of the year multiple times. She was named Realtor of the Year by the Richmond Board of Realtors in 1991.
June was an active volunteer throughout her life, always giving back to her community. She was very active in the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce, especially as a member of the Chamber Action Team, always showing up at every ribbon cutting. June was honored with the Lifetime Volunteer award at the Chamber's annual dinner in 2013. When receiving this award, it was noted, "It's not a true chamber event if June isn't there… June always has nice words to say about others' accomplishments and takes notice of what is going on in the entire community." June was also a member of many other community organizations such as Richmond Civic Theatre, Richmond Art Museum, Women's Club of Richmond, Wayne County Historical Museum, Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, and others. June was also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and Catholic Women United.
June enjoyed traveling the world accompanied by family, including her sister, Shirley, and nieces Rosemary Wright and Nancy Miller. Her many adventures included kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland and walking the Great Wall of China, among others. She was an avid sports fan and attended many Richmond High School sporting events. She could also be found in the stands supporting her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's various activities, as family was everything to June. She would frequently let her family know that she was so proud of them.
She married Albert Salzarulo on July 3, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. who passed away on December 17, 1993. She is also preceded in death by her infant twin sons Albert and Anthony, her parents Fred and Lulu (Seaney) Mitchell, two brothers Raymond and Bill Mitchell, and two sisters Donna (Mitchell) Cox and Rosemary Mitchell.
June is survived by her two daughters, Annette (Gary) Rodefeld and Amy (Yancy) Sons; two grandchildren, Eric (Natalie) Rodefeld and Abby (Justin) Burkhardt; five great-grandchildren, Colette and Leo Rodefeld and Lucy, Archie, and Bo Burkhardt; and many nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Holy Family Church, with Rev. Sengole Ganaraj officiating, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 204 South 6th Street Richmond, Indiana 47374 or Help the Animals Shelter 2101 West Main Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374.
