June I Miller

June (Ahaus) Miller, 94, of Richmond died Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Reid Health. She was born on June 27,1928 in Richmond to William and Irene (Schafer) Ahaus. June was a 1946 graduate of Middletown High School in Ohio.  She lived in Richmond most of her life except her senior year of high school.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tri Kappa Sorority, Altrusa International, PEO and Wayne County Special Olympics. June received many awards for her work in the community and also in the state.  These included Indiana Spirit of Special Olympics Family Award, YWCA Leadership Award for Breaking Barriers, Wayne County Special Olympics Distinguished Service Award and the Wayne County Foundation Ruth J. Wickemeyer Award. She also served on many state and local boards most importantly to her the Community Council for Disability Awareness, Green Acres/Achieva Resources and Wayne County Special Olympics.

Survivors include her son Mick (Barb) Miller of Liberty, daughter Becky (Ghlee) Jewison of Richmond; grandkids Kyle (Mindie) Miller, Cory (Maggie) Miller, Kirk (Erin) Miller and Emily Jewison; great grandkids Peter Miller, Elizabeth (John) Shatto, Brodie & Jonas Miller; her new great-great grandson Benjamin Shatto and many nieces and nephews.

She is proceeded in death by her husband of 61 years, Galen Miller, son Jimmy Miller, brothers Irvin and Loren Ahaus, sister Betty (Ahaus) Sciannamblo, nephew Bob Sciannamblo and many dear friends.

Because of her son, Jimmy, her passion was improving the lives of those with disabilities.  Her desire to help those individuals inspired her family and others to do the same.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Galen & June Miller Scholarship Fund  and the Jimmy Miller Fund.  Both funds are held at the Wayne County Foundation, 33 S. 7th Street, Richmond, IN
