Obituary

Joy J (Uphaus) Holthouse passed from this life on October 4, 2023, to join her recently deceased beloved husband, Tom, in eternity.

Joy was born March 16, 1935, to Howard and Grace (Oberle) Uphaus. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1953, where she was a member of Block "R" and Y Teens. She graduated from DePauw University in 1957, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and a member of the Naiad Swim Team.

Joy was married to Thomas L. Holthouse on June 16, 1956, after dating for five years. They raised four children:  Michael (Lisa) Holthouse of Houston, TX, Debra (David) Brown of Richmond, Jeffrey (Jenney) Holthouse of Richmond, and Annette (Victor) Oeschle of Avon, IN. Tom and Joy also leave behind 9 grandchildren (Katie, Ryan, Brian, Lissa, Pia, Hudson, Connor, Brenton, and Ian) and great-grandchildren Jack Ryan Brown, Callie Rose Hunnicutt, Mila Faith Brown, and Tucker Timothy Brown.

During Joy's life, she was employed by Mutual Insurance Company and Holthouse Furniture, and for 25 years she was the financial manager for Val Chang.

Joy was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and was a member of the church council for 9 years. She was a board member of Richmond Art Museum, a member of Forest Hills Country Club, a member of Petal & Stem and The Magazine Club, and a lifelong member of The Bridge Club.

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish. Burial for Joy will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday, October 9, 2023, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish 240 South 6th Street Richmond, Indiana 47374, Boys & Girls Club of Wayne County 1717 South L Street Richmond, Indiana 47374, or Richmond Art Museum 350 Hub Etchison Parkway Richmond, Indiana 47374.
