Joseph C. Bertsch, 93, of Richmond, Indiana went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 8, 2024. He passed away peacefully at Forest Park Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 28, 1931 in Richmond to Frank and Agnes (Witte) Bertsch and lived in the area all of his life.
Joe was a 1949 graduate of Richmond Senior High School. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Whittier, Alaska. After returning from the Army, he attended business and electrical school and worked as an electrician for over 40 years. He began his career at Belden and retired from a 35-year career at Alcoa in 1996. Joe was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister for many years. He had an intense love for Jesus and spent much of his last few years in prayer. Joe was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fishing. He was a member of the Richmond Bass Club, serving as president. He also enjoyed reading, hiking, and most of all spending time with family.
Joe was married to the love of his life, Joann, for 53 years and had 8 children. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Survivors include his children Monica Antrim of Port St. Lucie, FL, Bill (Alison) Bertsch of Bradenton, FL, Elizabeth (Scott) Green of Milton, IN, David (Christine) Bertsch of Richmond, IN, Carolyn (Ron) Yelland of Orlando, FL, Marilyn (Paul) Rathbun of Winter Park, FL, Mary (Mark) Rathbun of Port Orange, FL, and Joy (Andy) Cocks of Celebration, FL; 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister Rita Wright, brother-in-law, Jack Wright, sister-in-law, Marilyn Huber, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joann, parents Frank & Agnes Bertsch, sisters Mary Cramer, Betty Maurer, and Agnes Lawler, son-in-law, Chris Antrim, and grandson, Michael Antrim. The family would like to thank Forest Park Health Campus for their loving and compassionate care they provided.
Friends may call from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm on Friday, December 13 at Stegall Berheide-Orr Funeral Home. This will be followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Andrews Cemetery immediately following the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Seton Catholic Parish 240 South 6th Street Richmond, Indiana 47374.
