Obituary

Janice Kay (Gauker) Kahle passed away on May 7, 2024, after a long illness.

Janice was born February 15, 1939, in New Castle, IN to John H. Gauker & Helen M. (Deebel) Gauker. She grew up in Cambridge City, IN, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. She married Donald E. Kahle on April 23, 1960.

Janice was a homemaker and worked part-time in the front office of several local doctor's offices. She also volunteered at Meals on Wheels and the Richmond Food Pantry. She loved cats and rescued many stray or unwanted cats over the years.

She is survived by her husband Don, her daughters Cindi Sifers (Charles) and Julie Morand, brother Charles F. Gauker of South Dakota, brother-in-law John J.  Kahle (Mary Lou), sister-in-law Ann E. Melle, 6 grandchildren, Amanda Krutz, David Krutz, Sarah Baker, Max Sifers (Emily), Erin Grube and Kelly Grube, and 5 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to her caregivers, Lena, Akili, Tonya, Carol, and others from Synergy HomeCare.


Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church on Saturday, May 11 at 11:00 am with Rev. Sengole Gnanaraj officiating; burial will be in St. Andrews Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, May 10, 2024, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Help the Animals, 2101 West Main St., Richmond, IN 47374.
