James R. Black, 62, of Richmond, passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2025, at Reid Health. He was born September 26, 1962, in Richmond to Billy and Ruby Powell Black and lived here all of his life.

James worked for Porter Advertisements.

He enjoyed watching sports, including his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Black, five children, Jeremy Potters, Tiffany (Juan) Goodwin, James Black Jr., Vicki Goodwin, Jerry (Samantha) Goodwin, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Charles Black, Kenneth (Sally) Black, Albert (Patricia) Black, Sharon (Micah) Mann, Carol (Kenny) Thomas, several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandson, and one brother, Gordon.

Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, September 8, 2025, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Andrew Stensaas officiating; burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
