Obituary

James Robert Anderson "Jim", age 97, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, in Rapid City,
South Dakota.
Born on July 31, 1927, to Jacob and Edna (Thompson) Anderson in Randolph County, Indiana,
Jim spent the majority of his 95 years in the Richmond, Indiana area before moving to Rapid
City, SD, with his son
He dedicated 43 years of hard work as a machinist and millwright at Johns Manville. Even after
retirement, Jim was always on the move, creating, tinkering, and building. His family finally
forbade him from getting on the roof at 91 years old.
Jim served in the United States Army from October 1946 to February 1948 and was a proud
member of both VFW Kirk Little Post 1108 and American Legion Post 65. He deeply loved his
wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was good-natured, quick-witted, and
kind. With a lifelong sweet tooth, if you have something sweet today, you can honor him by
"having one and a spare", as he said every time he shared with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Anderson in 2020 after 70 years of marriage.
Jim is survived by his children, Laura Anderson and Jeff (Brenda) Anderson; his grandchildren,
Aaron (Trena) Brewer, Adam (Rachel) Brewer, Jenna (Chris) Stensland, and Julie Anderson;
and his great-grandchildren, Serena Gersaba, Max Stensland, Liam Stensland, and Lennox
Johnson.
