We deeply regret our loving husband and father, James E. Irwin, 84, passed away on September 19th at IU Health Methodist. Heaven has gained an angel. He was born on December 31, 1939, in Dublin, Indiana to John and Dorothy Irwin.

Jim served in the Army from 1957-1960.  He married Cynthia Sherer on January 26TH, 1963.  He and Cynthia enjoyed 61 years of marriage traveling and being with family, especially enjoying time with grandchildren.  Jim worked at Richmond Gear and later as a car salesman at Fred First Ford.  Jim loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons and friends.  He was an avid Celtics and IU basketball fan, enjoyed horse racing, had a passion for music, and loved the many pets he had over the years.

His survivors include his wife, Cynthia, his son Steve Irwin of Richmond, IN, daughter and son-in-law Amy and Bryan Neighbors of Eldon, MO, son and daughter-in-law Marc and Julia Irwin of Williamsburg, IN, grandchildren Katie, Nick, Adam, Abigail, Alysa, and Nate, sisters Marliee McDonough of College Corner, IN and Sueanne Martin of Indianapolis, IN.

His father, mother, and brothers Jerry and John Irwin preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2024, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Hodgkin officiating. Following services burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with military services performed by the Wayne County Veterans Honor Guard.  Friends and family may call from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
