Obituary

Doris G. "Miss Kitty" Alexander passed away peacefully, on Saturday, September 30th at Brickyard Healthcare Golden Rule Care Center.

She was born November 29th, 1932 in New Paris, Ohio to Glen and Mary Comer Young, and had lived in the Richmond area her entire life.

She retired years ago after formally owning Shenandoah Inn, Country Side Inn, and Miss Kitty's Trails End Saloon. She also worked at Speedway on the West Side where she was known to have a line of people waiting for her.

Miss Kitty was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1108 and James E. Ryan American Legion Post 322. She was known for spending time with her family, yodeling, Diet Pepsi with a straw, and playing cards. She loved the holidays, but Christmas and decorating with snowmen was her favorite.

Survivors include her children, Steve Shaffer, Sherri Shaffer (Rick), and Julie Shaffer-Smith (Bill). She had a significant other of many years, John Rigsby, and a very special friend Leann Rigsby-Patterson.

She has 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 5 great, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her former husbands Bill Shaffer and Dick Alexander. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Carl Young, Ralph Young, Bob Young, Charlie Young, Norma Sparks, and Joann Cook. She is also preceded in death by her son Billy Shaffer, and her daughter Terri Davis.

The family would like to express many thanks and gratitude to Brickyard Healthcare Golden Rule Care Center for the exceptional care they provided to Doris during her stay. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to VFW Auxiliary Post 1108 or James E. Ryan American Legion Post 322 in honor of "Miss Kitty".

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to the family via the guest book at stegallberheideorr.com.
