Obituary

David Lee Waltz, 80, of Centerville, IN died Friday, May 19, 2023, at Ambassador Healthcare. Born December 20, 1942, in Oxford, OH to Howard and Grace (Wendall) Waltz.

David was the youngest of four. He spent his childhood in Raymond, IN—on his parent's farm where he had two horses he loved, Birdie and Tom.  He spent most of his adult life in Richmond, IN, and worked as a home builder, handyman, and factory worker.  He moved to Boise, ID for a few years and worked as a tow motor operator.

His hobbies included playing checkers, reading, riding his bike, long walks, and visiting the Richmond Rose Garden.

Later in life, he returned to the Richmond area to be near his children. He spent his final years in the care of his oldest daughter, Sherry Turner, and enjoying his grandchildren. David was known to some as "Crazy Dave," and to others as "the Candyman." All who truly knew him will remember him as a warm-hearted, humorous, genuine, and patient man with the biggest heart of gold. His family is proud of his life and will miss his smile and unforgettable laugh. His favorite joke when someone asked him if he was alright, was to respond with "No, I'm all left".  He always knew how to get a smile out of folks.

He is survived by: daughter: Sherry Turner of Centerville, IN; son: Garry Waltz of Washington, NC; daughter: Bonnie (Kevin)  Hawkins of Washington, NC; son: Roger Waltz of Richmond, IN; daughter: Melody Stouffer of Richmond, IN; daughter: Charity Waltz of Richmond, IN; Troy (Jasmina) Waltz of Peyton, CO; son: Derrell (Alyssa) Sheets of Winchester, IN; sister: Elaine (Tom) Noe of Princeton, WV; brother: John Marvin (Mary Cay) Waltz of Okeana, OH, nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Charles (Nancy) Waltz.

His viewing will be a family-only per his request. Friends can pay their respects at his final resting place in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Centerville, IN.  Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home is Handling the arrangements.
