Dan Fienning was a lifelong avid fisherman. His nickname was "Bluegill" to his friends and family.

Daniel Richard Fienning was born in Richmond Indiana on July 15, 1928 and died on April 29, 2024 at the age of 95. He passed away of natural causes. He was a graduate of Richmond High School and worked at the family business in his younger years, the  Fienning Food Market on South 11th and D streets. He served his country in the army during the Korean War. He became a surveyor and  later elected to the office of county surveyor for Wayne County. He also worked in the city engineering department and later on he worked in the city street department.

Dan married Ann Murphy Fienning in 1954 and stayed married until her death in 2011. He is survived by his 3 children Nancy Regina Hall, Thomas Michael Fienning, Timothy Scott Fienning and 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by sisters Wanda Mullins and Betty Coleman who spoiled him all of his life and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his Father Richard Charles Fienning, his mother Myrtle, and stepmother Vera, who raised him, and 2 sisters Frances Hunt and Janet Gatzek.

All of the fish in Wayne County trembled with fear when he neared the waters edge with his ever present fishing gear. His many many fish fries were always a treat for the folks that were lucky enough to attend. He was also known as the man the local hunters relied on to bring their varied game for butchering. Dan's butchering skills he learned from working in the butcher shop at the family grocery business.

He will be missed by all of the surviving family members and friends that knew and loved him. A special thanks goes to his youngest child  Timmy for the devoted love and care he gave in the final years.

Private services will be held at Lutherania Cemetery, in Richmond, to celebrate the long life of a very well liked and accomplished man.
