Christopher Lee
Clarke
Jul 28, 1949 — Dec 3, 2023
Christopher Lee Clarke, age 74, of Richmond, Indiana, peacefully joined the Lord on Sunday, December 03, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 28, 1949, in Muncie, Indiana to Kenneth and Marilyn Jay Clarke, Chris was a lifelong resident of Richmond. Chris, known as "Kit" by many growing up, was a 1967 graduate of Richmond High School and attended Indiana University East. He particularly enjoyed his years playing tuba in the RHS band and orchestra.
He married the love of his life, Janice (Harman) Clarke, on April 29, 1972. They were blessed with 51 years of marriage.
Chris retired just seven weeks ago, having worked for 44 years for International Trucks, through Studebaker Buick and Selking International.
He was a dedicated member of Richmond First Church of the Nazarene. He faithfully served the church and its members through his service on the church board, as Sunday School Superintendent, mowing the grass each week, designing and building sets for Vacation Bible School and Christmas plays, maintaining the church building, singing in the praise team, as well as driving the church bus. He faithfully supported each pastor and was eager to fill any role needed at the church.
Chris had a remarkable knack for finding humor in every situation, lifting others' spirits with his quick wit. He was an encourager who never knew a stranger. He was a jack of all trades and could fix or build anything, from woodworking to cars and home improvement.
Survivors include his wife Janice, daughter Leslie (Paul) Clarke Royer, and sister Pamela (Dan) Clarke Disser. He was a proud Papa to five grandchildren: Sophie, Greta, Sam, Lily, and Hope Royer. He also leaves behind many special cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Chris' family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Rubinder Dab and the cardiology staff at Reid Health for their exceptional care.
Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, December 8, 202 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Adam Griffin, and Rev. Ron Karkosky officiating; burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Chester Blvd., Richmond, IN 47374. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stegallberheideorr.com
