Obituary

Charles Richard Fitzgerald 76 of Richmond passed away on October 2, 2024, in his home after a long illness. He was born January 22, 1948, in Connersville to Leslie and Elsie Cummings Fitzgerald and lived in Norfolk, Virginia before moving back to Richmond 40 years ago.

Charles was a U.S.  Navy veteran and a natural athlete.

He retired after 22 years of service from the Richmond Police Department; where he was named the police officer of the year in 1986 and again in 1994. After retirement, he worked for the Wayne Township Trustee office as a private investigator.

Charles was a lifetime Elks Lodge #649 member and was named Elk of the Year in 2016.

He is survived by his son Alex Fitzgerald, sister Mary (Phil) Ball of Avon, two brothers John (Linda) Fitzgerald of Carmel, and Jim Fitzgerald of Fishers, several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Joyce Ann Petzold, and two brothers Bob Fitzgerald, and Mike Fitzgerald.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family; Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
