Carolyn Sue Thompson-Reynolds was born on November 30, 1936, in Owingsville, Kentucky to Audrey Faye Goodpaster and John Arnold Goodpaster. On January 24, 2024, at the age of 87 years old, she peacefully passed away in Richmond, Indiana.

Sue's early years living in Kentucky always remained with her. She would reminisce about how her parents grew and canned their food, her banjo-playing mother would not permit a TV in the house, and how they kept their milk cold by hanging it in the well dug by her father–a dig that nearly resulted in his early demise as he struck natural gas and had to scramble to the surface before suffocating. On a lighter note, Sue learned to play the piano by ear and, to her mother's delight, would entertain guests who visited her parents' home.

Her father eventually settled their family in Richmond, Indiana. During her younger years, she worked at Dandy's Restaurant, Richmond Baking Company, a local glove factory, and Woolworths, from which she would walk to Phillip's Drug Store to meet her sister for a fizzy glass of Cherry Coke and a slice of cherry pie. She later devoted her time to being a homemaker and raising her two children. In her later years, she volunteered at the Salvation Army.

Sue was the rock of her family members' lives. She was always there for them when they needed her, up until she took her last breath. Her kind heart and soulful demeanor continue to resonate throughout their lives. She will always be with us. Sue gave the gift of how to love and not judge and have compassion for others. She always said, "Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet." Sue felt the rain, enduring many tribulations, including losing two husbands, caring for her brother when he was ill, and losing her youngest child. Yet, she always remained present for those around her. If you dialed her number or knocked on her door, Sue would never shy away from answering the call.

Her family, children, and grandchildren were the light of her life. Grandchildren's visits to Mammaw's apartment included a complimentary—and mandatory—clipping of fingernails and toenails, bowls of cherry cordial ice cream, and Wheel of Fortune. She would assure her grandkids they could become President of the United States whenever they correctly guessed a puzzle. Mornings were filled with the smell of biscuits and gravy, eagerly prepared hours before the grandkids even awoke.

Sue is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Tonja Thompson; two grandchildren Dustin and Cody Thompson; nieces Kathy Burton and Lisa Brockman; cousin Loretta Hogg; and close friends and neighbors Nora Barnes, Liz Barnes, and Lina Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents Audrey Faye Goodpaster and John Arnold Goodpaster; husbands Hugh Merrill Thompson and William Reynolds; son Timothy Thompson; twin sister Betty Lou Brockman Harper; eldest sister Violet Goodpaster; and brother Vernon Goodpaster.
