Carole Marie Wilcox (Beenau), known to her loved ones as "Skinny," passed away at the age of 85 on May 14, 2024, in Richmond, Indiana. Born on June 10, 1938, in Buffalo, New York, her warm heart and selfless disposition left an indelible mark on her community and her family. She devoted herself as a newspaper carrier for the Indianapolis star for over 20 years. Skinny also was a Manager of the Richmond Circulation Office for the Indianapolis Star. Skinny and her husband Robert Wilcox were also avid bowlers on their bowling teams at Do Re Me lanes.
"Skinny" graduated from LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls, NY. She had devout faith and attended First Baptist Church. She had an array of interests that included online games such as poker, puzzle games, and art. She had an enduring love for the Kansas City Chiefs and College football. She struggled with health problems for decades, standing as a testament to her unwavering spirit and joyous engagement with life.
Her children will cherish her memory: Laura Little, Elaine Wilcox, Robert (Soon-Hee) Wilcox, Victoria Wilcox, Melody Wilcox, Raquel Wilcox, and John (Stacey) Wilcox. The proud grandmother to Stephanie Simpson, James, Carole Vaughn McKelvey , Clifford, Steven, Deann, and Beverly Vaughn, Robert and Alexander Wilcox, Michael, Jessica, Christina, Amanda Craig, Brandon Guzman-Wilcox, Chaz Campbell, John Wilcox jr., Sarah, Clara, and Leanne Wilcox, along with her great-grandchildren, Mya & Sofia Iman. Skinny's legacy remains vibrant through them. "Her passage to eternal rest was preceded by her husband, Robert E. Wilcox, her parents, Herbert and Jane Beenau, and her siblings: Marilyn Worden and Bev Marsteller. She is survived by her brother, William "Bill" (Barbara) Beenau. Also her sisters, Ruth Housser, Lauren Whittemore, and Janet Beenau."
The Wilcox family warmly invites friends and loved ones to attend a visitation in honor of Skinny on May 22nd from 11am to 1pm at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home, 222 N. 10th Street Richmond, Indiana 47374. A graveside service will follow immediately at 1pm in Earlham Cemetery, where Carole will be laid to rest.
