Obituary

My father, Bill Magaw was born on the family farm in Boston, IN on September 5, 1932, to Martha and Paul Magaw, where he lived out his 91 years. Bill was a lifelong Angus Cattleman, he preferred them short and fat. He was a 4-Her, a Camp Clements Counselor and a Boston Terrier. He attended Purdue University and joined the US Army where he served in Fort Sill, OK, eventually serving in Germany. While there, he toured most of the country in his free time on his beloved Triumph Motorbike. Some of that travel included his visiting mother riding on the back of his bike. And, convincing a carnival owner to allow him to ride his motorbike in the wheel of death. He was very proud of his time in the service.

Bill returned to Boston in 1955 to work on the farm. In the evenings, he ran the spotlights at Richmond Civic Theater, where he fell in love with my mother, the make-up girl, Jeanne Cook. Bill became the Richmond Airport Manager where he was always flying in any type of aircraft. He and Jeanne had a daughter, me, Marta. Bill was a wonderful adventurous father and even my 1st grade "class mom" (my teacher, Mrs. Doan was a real looker!) In 1969, he started metal sculpting and soon after, my parents converted their chicken coop into a Gallery of Art. Bill's talent as an artist took our little family to many faraway places and into the lives of amazing artists and collectors. His first two major exhibitions ran simultaneously in the Richmond Art Museum and The Galleria Julianna, in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Bill worked and exhibited in museums and galleries across the US, South and Central America, the Caribbean Islands, and both Eastern and Western Europe. Through this, he had many dedicated friends across the country and around the world.

My Dad was a lifelong adventurer and daredevil: exploring active volcanoes; scuba diving; sailing; skiing; storm chasing; hot air ballooning; parachuting and hang gliding. He and many close friends built a village of tree houses in our woods on the farm. At this time, pushing 50 years later, we still hear tall tales and stories. That was our Neverland. He was a really cool dad, a gentleman, and a dreamer. It's been my privilege to be this man's child.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Martha and his sisters Roseanna and Mary Catherine Hall. His survivors include his wife of 67 years, me, and his wonderful dedicated son-in-law, Trey Powers. He also has a special nephew, Chuck Klein, and a niece, Peggy Davidson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boston Fire Department at 102 Salem Street, Boston, IN, 47324 whom he once volunteered with in his younger years and who rescued him several times in his later years.

Upon Bill's requests, we will not have a traditional funeral, we will have a private memorial and a toast to a fearless man, my father, Bill Magaw.

As one of his closest friends says, "Bill lived his life to the fullest and not many people can say that!" He will be missed by many.
