Malcolm (Mac) A. Paddock, age 92, of Richmond, died February 1, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital in Dayton, OH.
He was born June 5, 1920 to Clarence F. Paddock and Besse J. Tibbets Paddock. Mac was a resident of Richmond all his life.
A graduate from Oliver P. Morton Sr. High in 1939, he entered into Military Service in 1942. Mac served in the Army as a Technician Fifth Grade, Medical Detachment Unit 422. Theatres of war included the Sicilian, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He earned the EAME Ribbon with 5 bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Award.
Mac started civilian life working at the Peoples Home and Savings Association. He also worked at Wayne Works and retired from Western Southern Insurance Company. After retirement, Mac became a paper carrier for the Palladium Item until 1988.
Mac enjoyed all sports but was a die-hard Indiana University Basketball fan and Reds fan. He enjoyed talking sports to all. As a Life Member of the Elks #649, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed attending PGA tournaments. Mac recorded a “Johnnie Walker International Hole-In-One Award” at the Elks Country Club May 23, 1987 on the 13th hole, 180 yards. He was also a Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1108. He was a 62 year member of Richmond #196 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Valley, Murat Shrine, and Tarum Shrine. He enjoyed attending the Scottish Rite Annual Ham and Bean Supper. Mac and his wife, Angie, loved their community and were very involved in the Italian Women’s Club Spaghetti Supper. He also was a supporter of the National WWII Museum and HELP the Animals of Richmond.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline Fratellio Paddock, his brother Basil V. Paddock and step-brother Joseph Sauer. He is survived by his step-sister, Beverly Sauer Klute of South Pasadena, Florida, and many loving generations of nieces and nephews. Mac also leaves behind his loyal four-legged friends Noah and Regis.
Family and friends will gather Saturday, February 9, 2013, 2pm, at St. Mary’s Cemetery for graveside services, with military honors by the Wayne County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to HELP the Animals, Inc. 2101 W. Main St, Richmond, IN 47374. Arrangements are being handled by Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home.
