Frances L. Vadakin 71 of Richmond died February 27, 2013 at Reid Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born May 27, 1941 in Richmond to Cecil A. and Ruth Crouch Penland Sr. and lived in Richmond all her life.

Frances retired from the Richmond State Hospital where she worked as a dietician. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and attended Centerville Nazarene Church.

Survivors include two children Angela (David) Crane and Gary (Heidi) Vadakin, four grandchildren Shaunetta Simmons, Elizabeth Braughton, Joshua Braughton, and Brett Vadakin, one great granddaughter Phoenix Simmons, two brothers John (Pat) Penland and Cecil (Ramona) Penland, one sister Estella Darah, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her special friend Larry Updegraf.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday March 4, 2013 at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Cook. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Boy Scouts of America 199 South Plum Street Hagerstown, Indiana 47346.
