Joseph E. Toney, 82 of Richmond died October 13th, 2012 in his home. He was born October 22nd, 1929 in Wayne County to Zeffie (Bailey) and Marion Toney and lived in Richmond his entire life. He retired from Richmond Gear Works as the Chief Expeditor. Joseph served in the Army Air Corp 1946-1949. As a member of the Kirk Little V.F.W. Post 1108 and Howard Thomas American Legion 315, he loved being with his fellow veterans. Joe was an avid vegetable gardener providing the entire neighborhood with fresh vegetables. He loved riding his bicycle and long walks. He was a great card player and often touted being the “Grand Champion”. Joe loved to mushroom hunt and he loved his sports. Survivors include his loving wife Pattie (Bell), his children Jennifer (Vincent) Roggero, Brian and Joel Toney, three grandchildren Joel Ryan Toney, Vincent Roggero III, and Angela Roggero. Joe considered family friend Donna Abbott to be like a daughter. He is also survived by his sister Mary Kirkman, and Matthew Toney. He was preceded in death by his daughter Rebecca; four brothers James, Billy Dale, Verl, Mage, and one sister Barbara Jean. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family, with rites by the Wayne County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery. Friends may call 4-7 P.M.
